Twenty-five percent of the proceeds from the sale of the exposed pieces at the Capitol between September 26th and October 24th will be donated to the Marichette Foundation. This foundation was created specifically to help New Brunswick women who are eager to pursue their education in French but lack the financial resources to do so. Bursaries will be given to these women, thus facilitating their access to a level of knowledge sufficient to find employment which will make them financially independent.
With her new exhibit, Raymonde Fortin associates her creative process to a sinuous watercourse. Meanders, swirls, rapids and splashes are the inspiration for this body of work. As always, exploration and discovery remain at the very core of Raymonde’s creative process.
“I coax images from blank canvas by applying and removing paint, transforming and investigating. It’s all about transparency and opacity, light and dark, minuscule universes of contrasts in which my quest for essence plays out. The materials and the tools I use, the way I apply the paint on the canvas, even my surroundings – all of these elements have great influence on my work. They evolve constantly and, in that sense, become fuel to pursue new imagery. That is how my paintings emerge. It is how the perceived image materializes on the canvas and how the creative process gains meaning and purpose. For the past three years, I’ve been working out of my home located in a natural setting overlooking a small river. I feel like I belong to this intricate ecosystem, that I’m an integral part of the cycle of seasons, that I flow with the current.”
Raymonde Fortin is a native of Gaspésie, Québec. After moving to the Moncton area in 1985, she obtained a Bachelor in visual arts at Université de Moncton. Since 2004, she has had over twenty solo exhibitions and participated in ten group exhibitions and various art events in the Maritimes, Québec and Ontario. Her work has been recognized with several awards, including Artist of the year in the Visual Arts category at the Éloizes award ceremony in 2008.

Fully produced in our very own Moncton, New Brunswick - "Stripped" is an independent feature film that takes viewers on an unusual journey to the dark spaces of shared human experience; the shadowed places we avoid for fear of discomfort and pain. Guided by the voices of Darkness and Light - loneliness, lust, shame, despair, secret and heartbreak unfold through the stories of six characters whose portrayals of vulnerability are set against a backdrop that doesn't just play with the conventions of filmmaking, but rocks the very foundation of cinematic art.
"What John Cage brought to the world of music, Colleen Furlotte brings to the world of film. What she proposes is just as revelatory, and just as revolutionary." (Ed Lemond)
A film by Colleen Furlotte
Starring: Elaine Amyot, Denis Arsenault, Colleen Furlotte, Laney Furlotte

About the filmmaker
Colleen Furlotte is an award-winning indie filmmaker, writer and singer/songwriter from the Moncton area of New Brunswick, Canada. A latecomer to the world of film, Colleen unexpectedly found herself falling in love with the medium which marries a number of her favorite forms of artistic expression.
Perhaps part reflection of her lack of background, perhaps part reflection of her personality, when it comes to making movies - Colleen doesn't easily fit into a box. She prefers a loosely scripted, organic approach to filmmaking, her style having been referred to as having shades of "cinema vérité". She likes to work outside of convention, to keep things fluid and honest, as she attempts to capture, not necessarily create, moments of magic on screen.
Colleen is a recipient of the Errol Williams Filmmaker Award and has been recognized by the YWCA as a Woman of Distinction for Arts and Culture. Her most recent project is a feature length experimental drama entitled "Stripped". She is currently working on a new screenplay with a keen eye on summer 2017 for production.

Sloan will play two sets, with a full-album performance of One Chord to Another preceding a more general set of "hits and fan favourites."
One Chord to Another was written by Sloan in 1995 during a time at which many believed the band had been broken up. It followed their two-album stint with DGC Records and was released in Canada through the group’s Murderecords in 1996. Since-shuttered indie imprint the Enclave handled the U.S. release in 1997.
Album stand-outs include the hard garage bop of "The Good in Everyone," horn-blaring pop piece "Everything You've Done Wrong," and Ferguson's knock-out gorgeous, Ringo Starr-saluting masterpiece, "The Lines You Amend."

Tanya Tagaq AnimismWednesday, October 19 20167:30pmOpening doors time / heure d’ouverture des portes6:30pmBuyMembers $32 | Regular $352014 Polaris Music Prize winner Tanya Tagaq comes to the Capitol to perform Animism, her latest work. Often called a masterpiece, the album has gained major acclaim throughout Canada. The innovation on Animism is an argument not for moving beyond, but for putting more emphasis on the value and necessity of the traditions. The rootedness is where the newness of the record comes from. That will not be a contradiction for you, if you listen properly.Read more...
Animism seamlessly uses the technology of the digital recording studio to make an encyclopedic argument for the natural world. In fact, it will erase from your mind the notion of human artifice and nature as opposites. If you listen.
If you listen, you will careen through a panorama of the contradictions of existence. You can hear the living land, and the land under assault. You can hear children being born and conceived. You can hear the torture of the innocent, and the glory of the tenacious, unstoppable force of life. If you listen you can actually hear the sound of a people defying genocide to rise, wounded but alive, strong, and ready to fight.
There is no artist working today more emphatically herself, more incomparable than Tagaq. There is no musician in this world more powerful. Animism is the album that finally translates her unique power to the recording studio.
An accomplished vocalist, Tanya Tagaq is sure to expand your horizons and wishes to bring you along with her on the journey that is Animism.
The Barr Brothers Opening act : Laura SauvageThursday, October 20 20167:30pmOpening doors time / heure d’ouverture des portes6:30pmBuyMembers $24.50 | Reg. $26.50The Barr BrothersRead more...
Brad Barr and Sarah Pagé meet when Sarah’s harp-playing drifts through the thin walls separating their two apartments. He is inspired and attempts to learn her music through drywall. They meet and become friends. Sarah, an experimental harpist, had been playing with various orchestras and performing with the esteemed singer Lhasa de Sela. Brad, a recent transplant from the US, had played for years with his brother Andrew in the Providence/Boston-based band The Slip. He had followed Andrew to Montreal after a fire in a Montreal club they were playing sparked a romance that took them over the border. The two brothers and Sarah began playing and recording together in their makeshift studio, ultimately producing their debut record, The Barr Brothers, “...a dusty journal of hushed Americana, West African grooves, and voyeuristic lyrics, rich with artifacts...”.
The idea for a solo project came to Vivanne Roy during the last three years on the road with Les Hay Babies. The band was garnering success wherever they went; winning Les Francouvertes in Montreal in 2013, getting instant fans in France, Switzerland, Germany and Belgium on three consecutive tours, receiving multiple East Coast Music Award nominations and winning the French Songwriter of the Year award at the Canadian Folk Music Awards. The fact that she had no deep roots anywhere, travelling from hotel room to hotel room in often unfamiliar cities, inspired new songs. Thus was born Vivianne’s solo project, Laura Sauvage.

Public on sale May 27th at 10am
SECOND SIGHT, Hey Rosetta!’s first album in nearly four years represents the
longest musical gestation in the band’s history. In part, the delay was due to
the lengthy touring cycle following the success of their last album Seeds, which
was short-listed for the Polaris Music Prize, and resulted in the band’s first JUNO
nomination and a performance on the JUNO telecast. There was also the
band’s determination to expand their sonic horizons and, as songwriter Tim
Baker puts it, “let each song come on its own terms and become what it will,
unencumbered by some predetermined structure or symbolism or thesis.”
So when the band started recording at Montreal’s MixArt studio in late 2013
with producer Marcus Paquin (The National, Stars, Local Natives, Arcade Fire)
SECOND SIGHT began as a long list of these new songs with "no real concept,
no over-arching theme to the work,” says Baker. “We had enough songs for an
album – but what was the album about? What were we trying to say as artists?
How did these songs relate to one another?”
As the session progressed, things got clearer, but another familiar hurdle
arose, “We didn’t have a single, which seems a perennial problem for us.
We’ve never really had a single, but boy do people want one” Baker says. “At
first we kicked against it, but then, eventually saw it as a challenge.” A second
studio session was booked at MixArt from which “Kintsukuroi” emerged. It’s a
song about real, broken, messy love, the title drawn from the Japanese art of
mending broken pottery with gold, thus producing a new object of beauty
with flaws highlighted instead of hidden – the idea being, that the object is
actually more beautiful for having been broken.
SECOND SIGHT would also experience a rebirth – a re-breaking and the
album’s vital lyrical connective tissue would reassemble to clearly define the
common threads in Baker’s lyrics.
“I’d been thinking about potential, about the great promise within all of us that
we never seem to fully realize. And as an artist, I'd been fixating on how to get
there. Which led to another of the album's main themes: this idea of shifting
your vision slightly – moving away from your everyday, rational, denotative, leftbrain
way of seeing the world and embracing a more suggestive, intuitive,
animalistic and ultimately more interesting ‘second sight’.”
You hear it in the lyrics to “Soft Offering (For the Oft Suffering)”. The song, Baker
explains, “is all about morning coming to tear down the vision that the sweet,
irresponsible, unscheduled hours of the night provides.”
Opening act : HANNAH GEORGAS
Light dancing with shadow, fingers finding answers in the expanse of a keyboard, a
voice that shimmers even in its most shattering moments—this is the power of
acclaimed pop singer-songwriter Hannah Georgas. Over two full-length albums, 2010’s
This is Good and 2012’s self-titled follow-up, she’s traversed a carefully constructed
soundscape that never fails to surprise. Georgas has an endless capacity for crafting
textured pop songs that confound expectation. She’s as likely to layer luminous,
devastating, and witty as she is upbeat, broken, and defiant. This is what makes her
music, even at its simplest, so transfixing, something that’s never more evident than on
Georgas’ forthcoming release, For Evelyn.
