The Ghost Walk begins at Moncton’s meeting place and grave yard, the Free Meeting House, our city’s oldest house of worship and gathering and its famous haunted cemetery where we find the ghost of “The Woman in White”.
Then the group travels to the haunted Victorian home of Mr. William B. MacKenzie for “The Tale of the Haunted Doll”! Followed by the tale of “Old Bill McCoy”, the ghostly sailor who got his revenge!!!
Then off to the old vacant lot by St. Bernard’s Church for the ghost story of “The Haunted House of H. Thaddeus Stevens”.
Followed by a ghost story stroll to the beautiful but doubly haunted Capitol Theatre where we encounter the ghosts of fireman Sandy Lindsay and the little girl in the opera box!
Then tour leaders entertain participants with stories of Moncton as they are guided along the streets to Assomption Cathedral where the story is told of “The Murder of Rosie Wing” and her lingering ghostly spirit.
Along the route, guides entertain their groups with tales of other ghastly events and there are more of these than many people realize ...
Ghost walk patrons are then guided along Lutz and other streets to the Old Park Street St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church for the story of “The Phantom Crosses”.
Guests end their tours at the ghost walk’s final historically haunted site... The Thomas Williams House! Here, guests are told of the two spirits who reside at the historic home ... Little Charles Williams and the singing maid, Sarah Wilson.
Guests are then bid a fond farewell and a safe journey home as they find their way back to Resurgo Place to claim their cars and the Moncton Historic Ghost Walks 2016 are then complete!
Mathieur Francoeur Art Opening - Hope PortraitsThursday, October 27 20165pmOpening doors time / heure d’ouverture des portesFreeThe public is invited to the opening of a new art exhibit by Mathieu Francoeur and FRACA in the Capitol Theatre lobby on Thursday, October 27th, at 5 p.m.Read more...
For this exhibit, two cancer survivors unite for the first time. Mathieu Francoeur’s rough, symbolic artworks, where we find beauty in the damaged, are paired with modern portraits and the enigmatic FRACA’s lively explorations. While Francoeur takes roots in his unique style of textures and metallic colors, FRACA explores portraits of friends and celebrities in a Photoshop decadence, collages and completely different styles. While these two beings are still getting to know each other, it is obvious that they are looking to complement each other. The artistic exploration of one merges with the other’s established style.
Hope Portraits d’Espoir
In partnership with the Centre de formation médicale du Nouveau-Brunswick and the Tree of Hope campaign, visual artist Mathieu Francoeur dedicates part of this exhibit to some “Hope self-portraits”, created by patients during their stay at the Mgr-Henri-Cormier Lodge. The artist invites the public to discover these patients’ hope and colourful faces, while they are fighting various cancers.
Mathieu Francoeur was born in 1986 and resides in Moncton. Suddenly diagnosed with testicular cancer in April of 2014, he turned to art in order to help finance his treatments. Currently in remission, he is now a full-time professional artist, earning a living therapeutically. This emerging artist has taken his place on the New Brunswick artistic scene, while familiarizing himself with the Canadian and International art market. He has had a very busy year, creating the giant mural behind the Capitol Theatre building, as well as earning second place in his very first ice sculpture competition, a residence at the Banff Center for the Arts and an appearance on the television show Crash Gallery (to air nationally on CBC in January of 2017). He earned his Bachelor on Visual Arts from the Université de Moncton in 2010 and is a member of the Association acadienne des artistes professionnels du Nouveau-Brunswick (AAAPNB) since April 2015.
The art exhibit Mathieu Francoeur and FRACA will open on Thursday, October 27th and will be shown at the Capitol Art Gallery in the Capitol Theatre Lobby at 811 Main Street in Moncton until January 4th, 2017. Entrance is free of charge.
